Alberta Youth Entrepreneurship Camp
August 19 - 25, 2012

The Alberta Youth Entrepreneurship Camp (AYEC) is a week-long camp for youth ages 13 - 15 who are interested in learning about business and entrepreneurship. The camp is held at Eagles Nest Ranch in Cypress Hills Alberta.

The main focus of this camp is to educate youth about marketing, advertising, preparing a cash-flow statement and writing a business plan. Campers work in a business team to set up their own businesses. The teams use real money which they borrow from actual bankers – which has to be paid back with interest – just like the real business world. The last day is “Business Day” at the camp, where campers have the opportunity to open and operate their businesses for fellow campers, parents, staff, sponsors, visitors, and invited guests.

Recreation activities also foster the entrepreneurial spirit – Burma bridge/zipline, mountain biking, horseback riding and climbing are some of the activities which offer experiences that encourage youths to try something they may not have done before.

The camp fees are fully sponsored by businesses in our communities. Interested campers need to apply for one of the four spots available in our region. Applications are based on written responses to questions about past leadership and teamwork experiences. Youth that are chosen to attend the camp are partnered with their sponsor and are required to meet with their sponsor to negotiate volunteer work in exchange for their placement at camp.

The 2012 application form will be available in April. The deadline for submitting the application will be in early June.
